UK Primary Care Clinicians' Perspectives on Implementing a Novel Point-of-Care UTI Test: A Qualitative Study [Ends 30th September 2026]
This qualitative interview study explores primary care clinician perspectives on the potential implementation of a novel rapid point-of-care test (POCT) for urinary tract infections (UTIs). The study aims to evaluate clinical utility, workflow integration, prescribing impact, and practical barriers/enablers to adopting rapid UTI diagnostics in UK primary care settings. Chief Investigator: Dr Emily Brown (SPCR Research Fellow, CAPC).
Who can participate
Any primary care clinician currently practising in the UK who routinely assesses, diagnoses, or treats adult UTIs. We are particularly seeking Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), Practice Nurses, Clinical Pharmacists (PCN/Community), and GPs.
What is involved for participants
Participants will take part in a single 1-on-1 remote interview lasting 30–45 minutes conducted via Microsoft Teams. Prior to the interview, participants will be posted a non-active polystyrene demonstration prototype model to examine during the discussion.
How to participate or express an interest
👉Participants can express interest by completing our short online screening by emailing the lead researcher directly at james.martin.2022@bristol.ac.uk.
Benefits for participants?
Participants will receive a £40 Love2Shop e-voucher upon completion of the interview as reimbursement for their time and contribution. Participants will also have early access to summary research findings upon completion of the study, and contribute to shaping user-centred design for future primary care diagnostic tools.
