DaRe2THINK is a major UK clinical research trial led by the University of Birmingham in collaboration with the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD). It investigates whether starting direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) (blood-thinning medications) earlier can prevent strokes, blood clots, cognitive decline, and vascular dementia in younger adults with atrial fibrillation (AF)
Who can participate
We are looking for EMIS practices in England, medium/large practices (or PCNs, federations etc) - funding is given to support training and research involvement, and support from the Agile Research Team (part of the Research Delivery Network) is also available.
What is involved for participants
Screen a list of potentially eligible patients (usually around 10 per 10,000 population) and if suitable send them an invite letter about the study - usually a few patients respond that are suitable, they receive research info leaflet, are consented into the study, and randomised either to intervention (DOAC of your choice as per local formulary) or control arm (no intervention). Patients are followed up by the study team and via their coded GP records.
How to participate or express an interest
